Currently I only have extras for 'How Could Anyone' and 'Stand By Me' and I will be photocopying one set of the african song and one set of 'Let the Song Go 'Round'.

Some of you will miss Mr Tham since he had been our conducter for 1year and 8months. I also miss him. :( Remember that Mr Tham is not one of school conducter anymore. Hi choir! June holiday has started, which also means june holiday CHOIR PRACTICES is going to start. Tomorrow is the first june holiday choir practices. The choir practices have been extended to 3hours during the holidays, which is why the timing of the practices is 9a.m to 12p.m. Below is the practice schedule.

On 30th December, which is the last practice of the holidays, we will be holding out seniors grad party! Yaaaay! *jumps up and down*

But of course we have to attend practice first before we have the party! Report at the holding site at 9am sharp in your choir tees please. After the practice ends at 11, the seniors will leave with us to the Telok Belangah Safra and we will happily hold hands to the bowling alley! (this is an exaggeration! Kekekeke.)

Please bring enough cash with you if you wanna bowl! :D I'm going to bring a camera and snap random and unglam photos of all of you! Wahahaha! *gives evil smile*
I've never bowled before to be honest. What if I fly with the bowling ball? I know you guys will laugh D:

Do you remember the SYC Concert coming this 13 December 2009 at the Esplanade? :D
Mrs Phylis Teo have passed me the tickets and sadly, we have to go there by ourselves and no teacher will be coming with us!

*Sheds some tears*

BUT! We can still make this fun and treat it as our very own choir outing together! *grins* To those who are unable to make it, then that is your LOSS! Wahahahha. You guys are going to miss the fun! Okay, I sound so evil ._. Don't worry guys, there will be upcoming concerts that the choir can attend okay!

Alright first issue, THE DRESS CODE.

Strictly no mini skirts or shorts please! It will be extremely cold in the esplanade and this is a formal concert so please I repeat, DO NOT WEAR MINI SKIRTS OR SHORTS. Jeans, long pants, long skirts are allowed!

Secondly, for the top, please try not to wear sleeveless shirts! Please wear a top that has a sleeve alright? You can bring a jacket along if you want. Hehe. :D For footwear, please DO NOT WEAR SLIPPERS OR SANDALS. Please wear shoes or something that covers your cute little toes!

For the hunks, I'm sure you will not wear shorts and a singlet right?! Please wear something decent and smart looking :)

Second Issue, TIME AND MEETING PLACE.

Alright for everyone's information, The concert starts at 7.30 p.m so I need everyone to eat an early dinner before coming to the concert! Choir members who are attending this concert, I need everyone to be present at the Jurong East Interchange at 6.00 p.m sharp so I can take attendance. Meet outside the Popular Store! Please bring enough cash with you in case anything happens!

The concert tickets are with me and I will distribute them when we reach esplanade. PLEASE and I repeat, PLEASE do not fight over the ticket numbers because it is free seating so you can sit with your friends during the concert as long as we occupy the seats given to us!

If you guys have any questions, please feel free to message your pretty vice-president! :D

Okay now that the SYC Concert thingy is settled, our dear Estelle requested for the time and dates of the choir practices so I will post it below for the seniors! Please feel free to come and pay us a visit! :D

1) 21st December from 9-11am at music room/AVA at holding site.

3) 30 December from 9-11am at music room/AVA at holding site.

I believe that the choir committee should have received my text sms of reporting to the music room at 3.15pm for this upcoming Monday's practice.
The agenda is regarding:

-Graduation party details
-Choir outing details
So I really hope that all of you will uphold the school value of discipline & report to the music room PUNCTUALLY at 3.15pm unless your reason is valid.
If not, latecomers will owe me 1 school round due to your leadership position & you guys should act as the role model of our juniors.

I second to what Vivian said. You guys will only get scared when we pose a threat.
Is that even necessary? Why cant your contribution to the choir be more positive instead of negative?
Honestly speaking, I do want to create an evolution in JVChoir but its gonna be impossible without ALL of your support.
This is when your attendence comes into play because EACH & EVERY one of you represents JVChoir. Without a single one of you, it is not us anymore.

Choir fund to be paid lastest by 3rd of Sept. Better prepare the money. YOU ALL BETTER PAY UP BY THE DUE DATE, IF NOT I AM NOT LETTING YOU ALL OFF! I am serious this time. I will give you rounds to run plus fines you owe the choir funds. When I am friendly to you all, you all will try to think it's a joke and dun take it seriously. You think I am kidding? IF you're gonna tell me that you are NOT aware of any hot news, you're gonna be in deep trouble because im gonna issue out 5 netball rounds of fine for those who dont keep themself updated.
& 10 netball rounds for singers who skip practice WITHOUT a valid reason.

I WILL NOT accept verbal reasons unless it sounds reasonable.

Sorry, I have to implement such strict rules because you guys have to know the importance of attending EACH & EVERY practice.

Back to business. Theres a few things which I want to highlight.

1) Choir Attendence.

I know im extremely long-winded to be mentioning about this again & again but as you can see,

our choir is REALLY SERIOUSLY NOT JOKING-LY small. In terms of numbers.

Ive checked with the president of Anglican High, their current stand is around 70.

& I know when we go for major competitions like SYF, you'll feel utterly small.

This is a human nature & no one can change the fact that its existance is a reality.

Thus, I would really like to enforce all of you to use your DIAPHRAGMS as singers because its absurd to be relying on your throat.

Spare a thought for the Choir atleast & not for yourself, dont be self-centered as to throw off the whole choir just because of your selfish act.

2) The 3 golden rules.

LOOK. you're not the one & only doing so. MOE makes sure that everyone belongs to atleast 1 CCA & stay devoted to it because when you attend CCA, it teaches you things like peserverence, discipline, punctuality & etc.

Its gonna be even worse if your attitude is "Faster end this tiring practice la, im so sleepy liao".

Frankly speaking, I do love running alot. Mark my words, if you guys push your luck, I'll never hesitate to add rounds so you guys just have to run at the end of every practice.
Choices ALWAYS have consequences. Think twice before you act.

In my opinion, I think that ALL of you really have to read this & reflect upon your attitude & behaviour. You guys are far way to out of hand & I definately have to bring ALL of you to task.

I dont give a damn if you nickname me the "bossy president" or whatever shit. Tell you what, I dont give a hook. My job is to ensure that all of you learn something at the end of every practice & have fun. Treat Choir as your friend & not your enemy.

Their set piece started sharp, and their high notes flat. Dissonant and a cappella sections were off. First piece is accompanied by piano. It's a sweet piece, but the girls were airy and the guys lacked strength to their voices. Some pitch errors esp obvious at chords, but the balance was alright. A tad boring though. The second piece was a cappella, polyphonic. Not a good choice but they manage through it though pitch problems were abound. Final chord was a mess. Should be high bronze.

i am back here again, i can see that only a few people or factually one or two people who will read this choir blog. To be exact, we are left with 10 days to Syf. We really got to work super hard to achieve what we want. i just hope that you guys will stop giving us unneccessary problems like late coming without reasons, skipping choir or whatever. Grow up please people. Just please please perserve for this 10 days. I can see that some of the sec2 and sec 3 from choir is enthu which is a good thing , what about the rest? why are we working so hard for the past years isn't it for achieving what we wants. Just make sure you people can revise after choir practice, mr tham cant spoon feed us all the time, i believe everyone in choir is at least 12 yrs old right? PLEASE Be mOrE INITIATIVE.

after discussing with estelle, we suggested that every morning at 7AM we can do our small group practices, this include singing with other sections. choir, we have to solve all our weakness and clear our mistakes by 10/4. perservere choir, i believe we will attain good results if we work hard for it. For me, I have a problem when singing with other sections. so i die die also must solve my weakness for those who encounter same problems you can come work with me. Hope you guys have had a wonderful rest after today's practice. Well, at least i have. hahaha

Anyways, i really hoped you guys had fun yesterday (well yeah, you'd better have fun cos it's the final year for the sec4). Please remember to practice the techniques Mr Tham taught us yesterday and do work on the dynamics. In case any of you are curious of the italian terms used for the songs, here it is:

From Shinjiru:
Bar 10. pochissimo riten-very little ritardation
Bar 10. legato smooth playing style in which the notes seem bound together (in other words, sing smoothly)
Bar 11. a tempo Resume original tempo
Bar 12. poco < do crescendo little by little
Bar 26. molto legato very smooth
Bar 37. piu mosso animated(!)
Bar 38. stringendo squeezing together, pressing, accelerating the tempo, a rapid accelerando with a crescendo
Bar 45. liricamento (i can't seem to find the meaning for this one. Sorry)
Bar 47. marcato strongly accented (sound like we're marching)
Bar 52. parlando in the style of recitative, singing with a distinct articulation so that all the words are clearly audible

Just a note for Sopranos, almost all of us still can't get the C^# for Bar 15's back, it is the same note as Bar 54's un.

Greetings choir mates. SYF will be here very soon, and judging from the sound that was produced today at VCH, I would say that we still have a long way to go. I feel that we aren't giving our best at all, I believe we can all do better than this. I'm pretty unhappy that mistakes(eg. pitching etc) that have already been corrected keep coming back, despite the amount of time spent fixing it. Put yourself in our conductor's shoes, would you feel irritated facing the problems again and again and again during choir every practices? Its like stepping back to yesterday everytime you wake up, the same things keep happening and things that have been done are undone. This only makes the practices sluggish and dull cos' basically we are doing the same things over again. Let's not succumb to this type of atitude anymore which i confess, i do sometimes. Let's be really focused on parts during practices. We may not get everything perfect but at least we get something meaningful done. Let's put a stop to this half-assed singing and really give our all. I must say, I'm quite happy with those of you who are starting to show great concern for choir, keep it up! Together we shall bring up the standard of choir and uphold it proudly!

Tip: When practicing at your own private time, try conducting with your hands infront of you, follow the dynamics, this give expression to your singing. i don't know if it works for you but it does for me. =)

Hi choir! Hello choir!

Finally get to post on choir blog. First, I have to thx Estelle who gave me the chance to post on choir blog. Thx Estelle!!!

Today we went to VCH right. Thats is not my fist time at VCH but it the first time standing on the stage with jvs choir. Haha! Since I got to post, i might as well comment about our performance today. Emm..... I dun think choir did very well today but is better then some normal choir practice we have. I think its maybe the place, more echo going on that make us go sharp. Dun be sad! As long as we work hard, bucker up, everyone do their homework just by singing at home for 15-20 minutes? we can have good results, not really very perfect as there is nothing 100% perfect in this world. Well today is over and wad have gone through have gone through. I do hope that after today choir rehearsal at VCH, we will have more sectional, more choir practices to correct our notes. Listen to the recording that Mr Tham gave us.

Choir is improving but that does not mean we have gotten everything right. Remember our goal 'SILVER'. Haha! We still have the chance. Dun be too worry.

P.S Estelle can give us some discount in the run??? 9 rounds too much.......

Hellos!

Since I got this OPPORTUNITY, I shall post about what I feel about today's performance at VCH alrights? Please dun feel offended, coz I just want to voice it out. I am really SORRY if it hurts anyone. Well, I dun think the choir did well today, as compared to the practices in school. Maybe due to the new place? Coz we need to adapt first? Or is it the hall is too enlarged as compared to the holding places in school? But I must say that choir is really IMPROVING. =) But no matter what, there is still chance of getting a SILVER for SYF if we worked hard. I am sure JVS choir can ACHIEVE the goal, rights? We must not DISAPPOINT anyone, especially the conductors and the principal, not forgetting the teachers who have the high expectations of us.

This is all I have to say. =) THANK YOU Estelle for giving me this chance to post. =)

first of all, i would like to thank Estelle for this oppourtunity to post a short shoutout to JVchoir.
yes, it might be pressurizing to be standing up on stage, singing to the judges.
but hey! its gonna be my first time on stage, participating for SYF aswell.
so why dont we just grasp this experience & reflect back on it?
at least we will be doing something whereby some other humans out there dont have a chance to do so.
like what Mrs Ang said earlier on,
you guys are NOT alone. so we should peservere in coming for regular practices although i know you guys may be tired at times.
but how about putting yourself in Estelle or YunBei or any other senior's shoe?
its their O'lvl this year & yet they're still giving their best.
so do you still have any excuse to be a backslider?

In any case,
i hope we, as a choir can improve by encouraging one another yeah!
every humans need to lean against another because thats how God programmed us to be.

I'm sorry, but at this rate all we're gonna get is COP. I am not kidding.

Choir, can we please work hard together?
If you can spend time doing your homework, why can't you sit down together as a section to sort out the problems?
Do you have any idea how much time we have? 2months. Two Freaking Months Left.

Please, I know there are people out there who wants to get Bronze, and maybe even a Silver. I know we can do it. I know choir's taking up a lot of your time, but hey, everyone's given 24hours and you have to thank god/us/conductor that your Friday afternoons are FREE unlike band and UGs.

Before I end off, in case some of you have forgotten about the new rules Yun Bei and I came up with, here it is.

1. By 3.45pm, chairs are supposed to be arranged in rows(curve), water bottles to be filled up with plain water, everyone to be seated in their position with their pencils and scores(in a choir file). Going to the toilet and arriving late will not be accused.
2. Three times late will be considered as one time absent.
3. Bags to be placed neatly at the back of the room.
4. SLs to fill up absentee form(from either me or Yun Bei) for absentees. If it is not accounted for by the next session, the whole section will have to run one round as punishment.
5. People who do not do their homework, do not have scores/bottle or pencil will be punished along with their section. For every person who does not obey, the whole section does one round as punishment.
6. Using of handphones are not allowed. They will be confiscated, and the whole section have to do one round as punishment for not paying attention during practise.
7. Punishment for Late-comers: One round per 5minutes late. We will follow either Hui Shi's, Ming Jun's or Yun Bei's watch.
8. Normal punishment will still continue. (for noise level-discipline)
9. We will only accept MCs for being absent.

choir will start on 29/12 at 8am, dont be late or else....and
choir will start at 1130 on 30/12 and therefore grad party will be delayed as Mr tham have something on in the morning and could not make it! I will make announcement again on 29/12 when choir resume on 29/12!

And if possible please recap on what we have learnt during choir practise last month. SYF will be on mid april the actual date is still not confirmed but we are SO UNPREPARE. we must buck up, we haven't even started on set piece yet and a choice piece and if we perform pok pok we will get a COP , and we have less than 4 months to go so please do your part.

Hello everyone,yunbei here. firstly i would like to thank Estelle for creating this blogskin which i think is perfect, but i still feel that there is not much choir member viewing the blog, please tag if you view this blog and give us comments.

Holiday Practices!

Tuesday(2nd Sept) 9am to 12nn: MPR1
Wednesday(3rd Sept) 9am to 12nn: MPR2

Late-comers will have to do punishment. Just to refresh your memory on the punishments,
5th minute late is 5rounds.
Subsequent minute is additional 1round.
If one committee member is late, the whole committee will have to do the punishment together.

Please do up your solfege and practise your pieces. Yun Bei and i will come down hard on you if you don't. (We'll probably sit on you)

Please also, pay choir fund of $2 for those who haven't. Please do not blame me if the Treasurers hunt you down.

Hello avid readers of the cute blog which i created (sorry i'm trying to create some form of humour over here).

I guess everyone should odd to be excited for this Thursday's A Capella Fest. It is superb, no kidding. You can approach any senoirs and ask. They'll probably say the same thing.

Okay a brief overview of what you should expect:
The A Capella Fest, from what we senoirs remember, is an annual concert held in Singapore (duh) for singers, chorusters? It is a normal concert expect for the fact that everyone sang is produced by the human voice box. No instrumental background music, no instruments, no nothing. So you guys will be bound to hear people doing pop songs, beat box and stuff like that.
One item that the choir will probably look forward to will be the one performed by Key Elements. They are a group of grown up experienced singers who decided to form a team and sing together. They do jazz pieces and sometimes their own remix of pop songs. Last year, they did Spiderpig(the one from the Simspons Movie) and it was fab!

Please do look forward to it!

Hello everyone, Estelle here. I think i'm probably the only one in this whole entire world who knows about this right now. Okay, why create a blog for my favourite CCA on Earth? Well, because:
